Meet Momar Njai, author and storyteller.
Momar was born into Gambia’s prominent Njai family of The Lion House. Following a military coup in 1994, several members of the family, including Momar, went into exile. Shadows Of Exile is a novel inspired by his experiences. Like Musa, Momar arrived in the US penniless, and like many immigrants he lived in the shadows at first. He credits the kindness, open heartedness, and goodwill of the people he met along his journey for his survival and eventual success. He currently lives in the San Francisco Bay area, and is very passionate about using technology to transform lives, especially in developing countries.

This book draws you in from the go as it takes you on a riveting journey embarked on by two young African princes who are compelled to flee their home after an abominable act by their uncle changes their lives overnight .Join them as they travel from Africa through the Mediterranean ,Europe and finally to USA in often treacherous conditions . This book had me on edge the whole time as I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions reading it. The writing is smooth and effortless and the characters very relatable. I like how the author explores the main characters concepts of family ,self discovery, happiness , acceptance and love as he meanders through the highs and lows of life as a Migrant.

Shadows of Exile by Momar Njai begins as a story of betrayal that is rooted in one of the seven deadly sins: greed. That narrative amazingly shifts to that of loyalty demonstrated by Menkiti, resilience bred within Musa and Hamza and optimism of what the future will bring for the two boys who were abruptly forced into manhood by one selfish act of the antagonist. The development of each character is poetry personified. Emotional connections developed early on allows the audience to drift from one sentiment to the next on this journey to fortification. Shadows of Exile is a page turner that I did not want to depart from; each chapter envelopes the desire to know what is next. It is an excellent read that I emphatically recommend.
